Great Concerts - Claude Debussy

Critic from the french composer Henri BUSSER (1872-1973) published in March 1958 by the «Revue des Deux Mondes» about a concert on Sunday February 9th, 1958 in Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, Roberto BENZI conducting the «Concerts Colonne».

By the «Concerts Colonne», the young conductor Roberto BENZI was coming back. He was conducting orchestras as a child prodigy at the age of 10. Since then, Roberto BENZI has worked seriously and his very promising talent is now blossoming. His programme comprised works by Verdi, Haydn, Tchaïkowsky and Debussy.

The revelation of the concert has been the very remarkable performance of La Mer by Debussy. The young conductor has find the right color for this music and could communicate his young impulse to his orchestra. I think I have not heard such a good interpretation since Camille CHEVILLARD*
